每逢偶數年，巨人隊真的就特別神勇，Madison Bumgarner（邦加納）用120球完封9局，Conor Gillaspie九局上轟出3分彈，終場巨人3比0淘汰大都會，在國家聯盟外卡戰勝出，台北時間8日起，巨人隊將與小熊隊進行5戰3勝的首輪季後賽。
巨人隊曾贏得2010年、2012年、2014年的世界大賽冠軍，今年是2016年，又是偶數年，難道又是巨人隊要拿世界大賽冠軍，大家都在看。
兩年前，巨人也是從外卡戰打起，Bumgarner在外卡戰中完封9局，帶領巨人隊8比0擊敗海盜隊，一路挺進世界大賽贏得冠軍，今年Bumgarner又在外卡戰先發，力拚大都會「雷神」Noah Syndergaard，Bumgarner完封9局只被打出4支安打沒失分，三振6次、保送3次，完封壓制大都會的攻勢，巨人隊能勝出，Bumgarner絕對是最大功臣。
大都會隊雷神此戰也投的相當精采，先發7局只被打出2支安打沒失分，三振10次、保送3次，表現滿分，8局Addison Reed上場中繼1局也沒失分，但9局上「守護神」Jeurys Familia上陣，卻被Conor Gillaspie轟出3分彈，一棒定江山，巨人隊晉級首輪季後賽，大都會淘汰。
